A case of assault has been registered against actor Saif Ali Khan on the basis of a complaint filed a man who accused Khan and his aides of breaking his nose after a scuffle inside the Taj Hotel here.

According to sources, the Mumbai police will question Khan for the alleged assault and decide whether to arrest him depending on what comes out in the probe.

Khan was said to be accompanied by his girlfriend and actress Kareena Kapoor at the time of the incident. Kareena's statement could also be recorded.

The case was registered on Tuesday night under section 325, read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

The complaint was filed by a person named Sharma. He said Khan along with Kapoor and other friends was having dinner at the Wasabi Restaurant in the Taj Hotel. Sharma, a resident of Juhu was also having dinner with his family at the adjoining table.

His complaint to Khan about the noise at their table apparently led to a heated argument and a scuffle. Khan allegedly told him to go to a library if he wanted peace and quiet.

Sharma said Saif and his two associates allegedly rained blows upon him fracturing his nose. Khan is gearing up for his spy thriller Agent Vinod which will hit the theatres on March 23.
